Please read the following points carefully before starting an application:

Afghan citizens:

  • Afghan citizens holding foreign passports in which Afghanistan is mentioned as place of their birth do not need a visa to enter Afghanistan.
  • Former Afghan citizens renounced their citizenship are required by law to have a visa to travel to Afghanistan.

All applicants:

  • Applicants’ passports must have at least six months validity and at least one blank page specified for visa.
  • All applicants have the option of submitting applications by mail, but they may be contacted at any time to attend in-person or online interviews.
  • Application submitted by mail must have been officially notarized by a public notary office.
  • Passports must be collected by the applicants or their representatives and for mail delivery a prepaid self-addressed return envelope should be included in the package.
  • Incomplete or unsigned application forms will not be processed.
  • Complete application and or meeting all the mentioned requirements does not necessarily mean a visa is guaranteed. It is solely the right of the consulate to issue a visa or reject any application at any time without provision of any clarifications.
  • Applications for minor age should be signed, submitted and collected, by parents, legal guardians or their representatives. A parent or legal guardian statement must provide all the information about purpose of journey, duration of stay, complete address and contact number in Afghanistan and their consent for their children’s visit.
  • All fees paid for the visa applications are non-refundable irrespective of the outcome of the application. All fees should be in form of money order, payable to "Consulate of Afghanistan LA. We do not accept cash, checks credit, debit or other types of cards.
  • The validity of the visa begins from the issue date of the visa.

Study visa ویزه تحصیلی

Study visa is issued to those who visit Afghanistan for purpose of  academic research and carrying duties at public and private academic and educational institutions.

Purspose of visit:Education, academic research and carrying duties at public or private academic and educational institutions.

Validity:Three months

Duration of stay:30-90 days, multiple entries

Regular processing time:7-10 business days

Fees: US passports: $160, other passports: $40 for single entry, $60 for double entries, $100 for multiple entries  
Particulars: Extendable 

 

Required Documents:

  • Passport with a minimum of six months validity
  • Application Form, filled out correctly and legibly. (Please make sure you have entered the correct/expected date of arrival, duration of stay and details of your previous visits to Afghanistan.
  • One recent photo (transparent, clean & clear)
  • Invitation letter from the home institutions abroad or host institutions in Afghanistan and approval of the ministry of foreign affairs (sent directly to the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Los Angeles)

  • Evidence of employment in the US for US citizens and proof of status of residence in the US for non-US citizens

  • Utility bill or bank statement (as proof of address)
  • Personal statement describing purpose of visit, duration of stay and complete address and contact number in Afghanistan.
  • Visa fees in form of money order.

Media visa ویزه رسانه

Media visa is issued to foreign journalists and individuals who intend to visit Afghanistan for any purpose associated with media. Journalists or individuals visiting for work for Afghan media must apply for an employment visa. 

Validity: Three months

Duration of stay:1-30 days, single entry

Regular processing time:7-14 business days

Fees:US passports: $160, other passports: $100 

Particulars:Not extendable and non-convertible.

* In some situations the processing time can take longer than noted above.

 

Required Documents:

  • Passport with a minimum of six months validity
  • Application Form, filled out correctly and legibly. (Please make sure you have entered the correct/expected date of arrival, duration of stay and details of your previous visits to Afghanistan.
  • Two recent photos (transparent, clean & clear)
  • A letter issued by the host or sponsor (media organization) confirming the purpose and duration of the trip.
  • When in Kabul, journalists and all media visa holders MUST attend the Office of the Spokesman and Director General of Communications of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan to obtain a journalist card. Without this card journalists are not allowed to carry out their duties.
  • Evidence of employment in the US for US citizens and proof of status of residence in the US for non-US citizens
  • Utility bill or bank statement (as proof of address)
  • Personal statement describing purpose of visit, duration of stay and complete address and contact number in Afghanistan.
  • Visa fees in form of money order
